An external drive is easy. If USB, sure, it is USB 2.0, which do almost all of today's compatible. The standard USB 1.1 is slow. Looking for a running Windows Plug n Play, "which usually means that you can connect it to connect to Windows, you can recognize them and support assistance. Dell probably does not support FireWire (IEEE 1394), but if so, who is also an option. Burner with Firewire is a bit expensive, but also a little faster, but probably not enough to worry about.

Well, if you have a FireWire port on your computer, it decides that you have a CD with a FireWire cable, which should get faster than USB 2.0. I recommend buying an external DVD burner, because they are often the same price and are faster to burn CDs. Shop http://www.geeks.com http://www.tigerdirect.com or the best offer in comparison to the shops and online store, no tax. :]
